Mountaineering is not an activity meant only for experts, anyone guided by the right expert and the necessary equipment is able to enjoy the charm of the southern world from above.

 

Between the 38th and 42th parallel the Andes loses its altitude and the volcanic activity increases. In this area the highest peaks match the volcanoes with eternal ice fields, from there overlooking the valleys and the sea. Some mountains add to the scene heights of almost 11,500ft above sea level.

 

The volcanoes: Chillán, Tolhuaca, Lonquimay, Llaima, Villarica, Lanín, Mocho, Choshuenco, Puyehue, Osorno, Calbuco, Puntiagudo, Yates and Hornopirén conform a unique mountain range to appreciate the magnificence of the Andes.

 

Climbing on Osorno Volcano

Landmark of Los Lagos region, the Osorno Volcano (8,700ft above sea level) is located only 2 hours away from Puerto Montt.

 

Climbing on for 2 hours through volcanic rocks slopes and 1 hour on snow, the beginning of the glacier is reached. Walking through ice and snow slopes reaching an angle of nearly 50º you get to the summit of the volcano.

 

Discover the highlands, the volcanoes and nearby lakes; a vast and breathtaking scene.

    • Location: Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park.
    • Itinerary: Departure at 05:00 am. Estimated duration of 12 hours, Arrival at 18:00 pm.
    • Climate: Mountain, snow.
    • Scenery: volcanic, lakes, summit, ice and glaciers.
    • Intensity: high.
    • Do not forget: mountain clothing, gloves, hat, sunblock, sunglasses, personal bottle.

     

    Optional is the night of stay at Teski mountain accomodation at Osorno volcano previous to the activity, which allows nearness.

Climbing on Calbuco Volcano

Starting off with a mid-intensity hike of 5 hours by a millenarian forest of Alerce the mountain shelter is reached. Summit attempts are started from this camp.

 

An edge of volcanic rock leads to a vertical cone of snow, roped together the summit of this volcano is reached.

 

Venture yourself to discover the Llanquihue National Reserve and the exceptional view of the volcanoes Osorno, Puntiagudo, Yates and Monte Tronador.

    IMPORTANT: This adventure has been designed to be performed in 2 days during winter and 1 day during summer.

     

    • Location: Llanquihue National Reserve, 30 Km northeast from Pto. Montt.
    • Itinerary: Departure at 09:00 am. Estimated duration of 12 hours. Arrival at 20:00 pm.
    • Scenery: trails, streams, wet forest and snow.
    • Climate: mountain, tundra.
    • Intensity: High
